\textbf{CELLS}

→ Cells are the structural and functional unit of life.

All living organisms are made up of cells. So, they are known as structural unit of life.

A single living cell can perform all impotant functions. So, it is known as functional unit of life.

→ Robert Hooke first discovered the cell in 1665.

\textbf{TYPES OF CELLS}

1) Eukaryotic cell

2) Prokayotic cell

\textbf{1) Eukaryotic cell}

→ These are generally large in size.

→ These cells are multicellular.

→ DNA is circular.

→ Membrane bound cell organelles are present such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi appartus etc.

→ Nuclear region is well defined and surrounded by a nuclear membrane.

→ Cell divide by mitosis or meiosis.

→ It contains single chromosome.

→ Ex :- Human beings, Plants etc.

\textbf{2) Prokayotic cells}

→ These are generally smaller in size.

→ These cells are unicellular.

→ DNA is linear.

→ Membrane bound cell organelles are absent such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi appartus etc.

→ Nuclear region is not well defined and is not surrounded by a nuclear membrane.

→ Cell division by budding or binary fission.

→ More than one Chromosomes are present in them.

→ Ex :- Bacteria, blue-green algae etc.
