<b>Heya mate. (^_-). Answer below.
====================================

• As the winter approaches, the sun's vertical rays goes on moving south (due to earth's revolution).

• This creates a region of fairly high temperature in the lower latitudes (equatorial region), and a region of very low temperature in the upper latitudes (tropical region).

• Now, from North to South in the Northern Hemisphere, as the temperature increases, the pressure obviously decreases.

• So, this creates a region of low pressure in the south India and the region covering the seas, and higher pressure in the north India.

• Due to this, the monsoon winds which were flowing from southwest to northeast, change their direction from Northeast towards southwest (as winds move from high pressure to low pressure).

• Now, if the change their direction, why doesn't the whole south India gets rainfall ?

• Actually, after giving rain for a period of over 3-4 months, these winds have dried and no longer hold moisture.

• However, when they move towards the south India, they pick up some moisture from the Bay of Bengal around the coast of Andhra. These winds then become moisture-laden, and give rainfall not only to Tamil Nadu, but also Sri Lanka and Maldives.

• After picking up the moisture, these winds give enormous rainfall over Tamil Nadu and these winds are the source of around half of the state's rainfall.

• The season over which the Southwest monsoon winds change their direction is called as the the Transition season or Retreating monsoon.
