Hi ,

Let total camels in the herd = x

number of camels at Forest = x/4

number of camels at mountain = 2√x

remaining camels = 15

according to the problem given ,

x - ( x/4 + 2√x ) = 15

( 4x - x - 8√x )/4 = 15

3x - 8√x = 60

3( √x )² - 8√x - 60 = 0

3( √x )² - 18√x + 10√x - 60 = 0

3√x ( √x - 6 ) + 10 ( √x - 6 ) = 0

( √x - 6 ) ( 3√x + 10 ) = 0

Therefore ,

√x - 6 = 0 or 3√x + 10 = 0

√x = 6 or √x = - 10/3

x = 36 or x = 100/9

But number of camels should not be

fraction .

Therefore ,

Total number of camels in the herd

= x = 36

I hope this helps you.
