********************************************
The coordinates of the point P( x , y )

which the line segment joining the

points A( x1 , y1 ) and B( x2, y2 )

internally in the ratio k : 1 are

x = ( kx2 + x1 )/( k + 1 ) ;

y = ( ky2 + y1 )/( k + 1 )

********************************************

Now ,

It is given that ,

The coordinates of the point P( x , y )

which the line segment joining the

points

A( 3 , - 5 ) = ( x1 , y1 ) ,

B( -4 , 8 ) = ( x2 , y2 ) in the ratio k : 1

x = ( k × -4 + 3 )/( k + 1 )

x = ( -4k + 3 )/( k + 1 ) ---( 1 )

y = [ k8 + ( - 5 ) ] /( k + 1 )

y = ( 8k - 5 )/( k + 1 ) ----( 2 )

x + y = 0 ( given )

[ ( -4k + 3 )/( k + 1 ) ] + [ ( 8k - 5 )/( k + 1 ) ] = 0

[ -4k + 3 + 8k - 5 ]/( k + 1 ) = 0

( 4k - 2 ) = 0

4k = 2

k = 2/4

k = 1/2

I hope this helps you.
