Step-by-step explanation:

So, We Know that sum of all the interior angles of a quardrilateral is 360 degree.

So,

[Using angle sum property]

We can say that ,

x + y + angle BCD + angle BAD = 180

{Using linear pair property(We can do this step earlier also)}

[   <BCD = 180 - a and < BAD = 180 - b]

x + y  + 180 - a + 180 - b =  360

[ 180 + 180 = 360 and hence it cancels]

x + y - a -b = 0

x + y = a + b

Hence, proved.
