SOLUTION

Given,

Three resistors of resistances= 2ohm, 3ohm &6ohm

(a). A total resistance of 4ohm can be obtained by connecting the 2ohm resistance in series with the parallel combination of 3ohm and 6ohm

Equivalent resistance, R= R1+ R2R3/R2+R3

=) 2+3×6/3+6

=) 2 + 18/9

=) 2+2

=) 4 ohm

(b). We can obtain a total resistance of 1ohm by connecting resistance of 2ohm, 3ohm & 6ohm in parallel with each other.

=) 1/R= 1/R1+ 1/R2 +1/R3

=) 1/R= 1/2+1/3+1/6

=) 1/R= 3+2+1/6

=) 1/R= 6/6

=) 1/R= 1/1

=) R= 1 ohm

hope it helps
