A halogen is one of the six non metals in the periodic table Group 17.

Halogens are known for their High tendency to accept electrons (electronegativity) and all the halogens have a valency = -1.

Halogens also have a reactivity series. In order of reactivity fluorine is the most reactive followed by chlorine, then bromine, iodine and astatine is the least reactive. These halogens can displace each other from compounds the same way metals do in the metal reactivity series.

NaBr + Cl ------> NaCl +Br2
