X+Y=4
X-Y=2
_____
2X=6
_____
X=3
Substitute in X+Y=4,
Therefore,
Y=1=b
X=3=a

so,  =2×3-3×1=3......

The answer is given below :

The given equations are

x - y = 2 .....(i)

and

x + y = 4 .....(ii)

Since, x = a and y = b are the solutions of (i) and (ii) no equations, they will satisfy the equations.

So, we get,

a - b = 2 .....(iii)

and

a + b = 4 .....(iv)

Now, adding (iii) and (iv), we get

a - b + a + b = 2 + 4

=> 2a = 6 [Since, b - b = 0 ]

=> a = 6/2

=> a = 3

So, a = 3

Now, putting a = 3 in (iii), we get

3 - b = 2

=> b = 3 - 2

=> b = 1

So, b = 1

Thus, we have a = 3 and b = 1.

Now,

2a - 3b

= (2 × 3) - (3 × 1)

= 6 - 3

= 3 [Answer]
