Hey dear!
Both LiCi and NaCl ought to be ionic compounds but LiCi s Covalent but NaCl is ionic.
This is because of the small size of cation and large size of anion in LiCi .
Since ,the size of cation is small, it's polarising power is large. And since the anion is small, it's polarisability is more. Since covalencyof a compound is directly proportional to polarising the power of cation and polarisability of anion, LiCi is covalent.
serious in case of NaCl the size of cation and anion nearly , so polarising power Na is not as much Li in LiCi and plorof CL in NaCl is not as much as Cl in LiCi.

LiCl is an ionic compound but the covalent character of LiCl is quite high in comparison of metal chlorides of same group. This can be explained on the basis of fajan's rule. According to which smaller is the cation higher will be its polarizing power and higher will be its covalent character.
