Ciao,
The bases which are dissolved in water are called alkalies .for example sodium hydroxide, potasium hydroxide.but alot of bases are not dissolved in water so they are not alkalies.for example copper oxide . therefore, every alkali is a base but evey base is not alkali.

If a base does dissolve in water, we call it an alkali. Here are two examples: Copper oxide is a basebecause it will react with acids and neutralise them,but it is not an alkalibecause it does not dissolve in water. Sodium hydroxide is a base because it will react with acids andneutralise them.
