A shopkeeper gives book on rent for reading .She takes a fixed charge for first 2 days an additional charge for each day there after latika paid Rs 22 for a book kept for 6 days while anand paid Rs 16 for book kept for 4 days . Find each charge the charge for each extra day.

Fixed charge = x
Per day charge after day 2= y
Total Latika amount = 22rupee
Total Latika days = 6 days
Total Anand amount = 16rupee
Total Anand days = 4 days

Equation for Latika-
x + 4y = 22

Equation for Anand-
x + 2y = 16

Subtracting second equation from first-
x + 4y - x - 2y = 22 - 16
=> 2y = 6
=> y = 3

Put y in first equation
x + 4(3) = 22
=> x = 10

Thus fixed charge is 10 rupee and per day charge is 3 rupee

Extra charge = y   [ additional for each 1 day ]

According to the question :-

x + 4y = 22          -----> [1]

x + 2y = 16             -----> [2]

Subtracting (1) - (2) , we get :-


          x + 4y = 22

         x + 2y = 16  
---------------------------------
    2y = 6

y = 6/2

y = 3

x + 2y = 16

x + 6 = 16

x = 10

Fixed charge = x = Rs 10
Extra charge = y = Rs 3
