Hello Users !

Q: A man manages to balance a block of mass 2kg by pushing it horizontally against an erect wall . If the coefficient of force between the block and the wall is 0.25 and between the block and the hand is 0.15 . Find the force needed to be applied by the man .

Final Answer :
Minimum Force required by man to hold block is 50N.

Steps and Understanding :
1) First, we will make FBD of this process.
F = Force by Hand
N = Normal Reaction
f(1),f(2) ----> frictional forces.

2)
Here, There is no motion in Horizontal
So, F - N = 0
=> F = N.

3) To stop the block, we have
f(1)max + f(2)max \geqslant mg
=> u(1) N + u(2) N > = 2 * 10
=> 0.25 * F + 0.15 *F > = 20
=> F * 0.40 > 20
=> F >= 50N.

Hence, Minimum Force applied by man to hold block should be 50N.
