A lysosome is an organelle containing digestive enzymes which it uses to function as the digestion and waste removal for cells, food particles, bacteria, etc.

functions are as follows:

  • helps in Removal of dead cells
  • Release enzymes outside of the cell (exocytosis)
  • Help in protein synthesis
  • Recycle the products of biochemical reactions that have taken place following materials being brought into the cell by endocytosis (general term for this 'recycling' function: biosynthesis)
