Let the number be x

Its given that if we added the number on numerator and denominator of the cocoa power then the amount is equal to amount of butter. hence the equation will be alike

$\frac{1 + x}{4 + x} = \frac{3}{4}$

$4(1 + x) = 3(4 + x)$

$4 + 4x = 12 + 3x$

$4x - 3x = 12 - 4$

$x = 8$
