Final Answer : 1/9

Let the unit of length be 1L.
Initial, value of 1L = k(say)
Then,
side of square be 'a'k units.
Area of square = ( a^2) k^2 units.
= a^2 L^2 units

Now,
Unit of length is tripled, 1L = 3k units.
=> 1k = L/3 .
Then,
Area of square is a^2 k^2 units.
=> a^2 (L/3)^2
=> a^2L^2/9 units.
There fore, Numerical value of area of square becomes 1/9 of initial in original units.
