since the areas are equal i.e. ar. of parallelogram =ar. of trapezuim.

i.e. ;

b x h = sum of parallel sides x height

sum of parallel sides= a + 8.4, height=4cm

= 8.8 x 3 = (a+8.4) x 4

= 26.4 = 4a + 33.6

= 26.4-33.6 = 4a

= -7.2 =4a

= -7.2/4 = a

= -1.8=a

sicnce the side cannot be in negative. so, the minus sign will be negligible. therefore a= 1.8 cm
