a=2 ˣ⁻¹ /2ˣ⁻²
b=2⁻ˣ/2ˣ⁺¹
Given ,a-b = 0
2 ˣ⁻¹ /2ˣ⁻² - 2⁻ˣ/2ˣ⁺¹ =0
2 ˣ⁻¹ /2ˣ⁻² = 2⁻ˣ/2ˣ⁺¹
Cross multiply:
2 ˣ⁻¹ × 2ˣ⁺¹ = 2⁻ˣ × 2ˣ⁻²
2⁽ˣ⁻¹⁺ˣ⁺¹⁾ = 2⁽⁻ˣ⁺ˣ⁻²⁾
2⁽²ˣ⁾ = 2⁽⁻²⁾
Since the base is same and LHS=RHS
exponents can also be equated.
2x = - 2
⇒x = -1
