i) Faster/ more energetic water molecules evaporate/ escape/leave. Slower/ less energetic molecules remain. So the temperature is lower.

ii) Water in the wide and shallow container has the greater rate of cooling because it has water with larger surface (area). Rate of evaporation is therefore higher/ faster/ quicker (i.e., Higher chance of evaporation) in the wide and shallow container. Since evaporation produces cooling effect, higher/faster/quicker rate of evaporation means higher/faster/quicker rate of cooling. Hence, water in the wide and shallow container will have greater rate of cooling due to higher rate of evaporation.
