Using pythagoras theorem, we have

AB2=AE2+BE2⇒

(x+8)2=x2+(x+7)2⇒x2+16x+64=x2+x2+14x+49(∵(a+b)2=a2+b2+2ab)⇒x2−2x2+16x−14x+64−49=0⇒−x2+2x+15=0⇒x2−2x−15=0⇒x2−5x+3x−15=0⇒x(x−5)+3(x−5)=0⇒(x+3)=0,(x−5)=0
