If a cart with a mass of 20 kg is traveling at 5 m/s and speeds up to 25 m/s in 15 seconds. (Intro to GUESS method and acceleration)

What would the acceleration of the cart be?

What would the net force on the cart during this time be?

Answer:

Given : m=1000 kg u=10 m/s t=10 s

Applied force F=1000 N (forwards)

Retarding force f=500 N (backwards)

Acceleration of the car in forward direction a=

m

F−f

=

1000

1000−500

=0.5 m/s

2

Using v=u+at

∴ v=10+0.5×10=15 m/s

Explanation:

initial velocity of car(u)=0ms

−1

final velocity of car (v)=30ms

−1

time(t)=10s

we know,

v=u+at

30=0+a(10)

a=3ms

−2

we know,

F=ma

=1500×3

or F=4500N

Hint: Find acceleration, by formula

 \frac{change \: in \: velocity}{time} , which is v-u/t

Here, v = 25m/s and u = 5 m/s

And find acceleration.

then apply the formula for Force,

Force = Mass × Acceleration
