Henry's law constant for dissolution of CH4 in
benzene at 298 K is 2 x 105 mm of Hg. Then
solubility of CH4 in benzene at 298 K under
760 mm of Hg is :
(1) 1.2 x 10-5
(2) 3.8 x10-3
(3) 4 x 10-7
(4) 1 x10-2

The solubility of CH4 in benzene is 3.8 × 10`3

Temperature = 298K (Given)

P = 760 mm hg  (Given)

Kh = 2 × 10`5  (Given)

According to Henry's law -

p = Kh x

= x = p/Kh = 760 / 2 × 10`5

= 380/10`5

x = 380 × 10`5

x = 3.8 × 10`3

Thus, the solubility of CH4 in benzene at 298 K is 3.8 × 10`3
