And daughter's be y yrs

x = 3y. --------------------(i)

6 years ago,
Mother's age = (x-6) yrs
Daughter's age = (y-6) yrs

(x-6) = 5(y-6)
=> x-6 = 5y -30
=> x-5y+24 = 0. ---------------------(ii)

Substituting the value of x from i to ii

3y -5y+24 =0
=> -2y = -24
=> y = 12

x = 3y
= 3*12
= 36

Therefore, the present age of mother is 36 years.
And the present age of daughter is 12 years.
