Here's a Christmas special problem:

Lauren, Martha, Jake and Judah all decide to buy Christmas gifts for each other.

Lauren spends $5 more than Martha. Martha spends twice as much as Jake, Jake spends $17 less than Judah, and Judah spends $15 less than Lauren and Martha combined.

How much money did they spend altogether?

(If you're giving irrelevant answers, I swear Santa's gonna get you a chunk of coal XD)

Step-by-step explanation:

Lauren : x

Martha : x - 5

Jake : (x-5)/2

Judah : x - 15

Jake : x - 32

Total amount spent :

x + (x-5) + [(x-5)/2] + (x - 15) + ( x - 32 )

2x - 5 + [(x-5)/2] + 2x - 47

4x - 52 + (x-5)/2

Multiplying equation by 2

8x - 104 + x - 5

9x - 109

9x = 109

x = 109/9 = 12.1

Now substitute value of x in all equations and add them
