Draw a rough diagram ,
Given :
In triangle ABC , <A = 90° and
AD is perpendicular to BC
proof :
In Triangle BAC , AD Perpendicular to BC
∆ ADB ~ ∆ BAC and
∆ ADC ~ ∆ BCA
Therefore , ∆ ADB ~ ∆ CDA
so , AD/ DC = AB/CA
= BD/AD
Therefore
BD/AD = AB/AC
or
AD/DC = DB/AD
AD² = BD × CD
