So usually oxidation number for Oxygen is -2 and hydrogen is +1. 

Youre given H2AsO4-2 

for Oxygen 

-2(4) = -8 

for hydrogen 

1(2) = +2 

add them up, you get 

-6 

and you know that overall charge is -2 

so, 

-6 + X(oxidation # for As) = -2 

X = +4
