Diwali or (Deepavali) is one of the India's biggest festivals. The word 'Diwali' means rows of lighted lamps. It is a festival of lights and Hindus celebrate it with joy. During this festival, people light up their houses and shops with Diyas (Small cup-shaped oil lamp made of baked clay). They worship the Lord Ganesha for good welfare and prosperity and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and wisdom.

Diwali is festival of lights it comes in the October to November people clean and decorate their house before festival

Diwali is an official holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and a school holiday in many states of the United States with a large Hindu population.

This festival is celebrated in the Hindu month of Kartikamasam which falls sometime during October or November. It is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama from 14 years of Exile and his victory over the Demon Ravana. In many parts of India, Diwali is celebrated for five consecutive days and is one of the most popular festivals in India. Hindus regard it as a celebration of life and use the occasion to strengthen family and relationships. In some parts of India, it marks the beginning of the new year. It is celebrated not only in India but also abroad. The Hindus worship the Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali.

Mandir (Temple) decorated with lights during Diwali

Hindus light up their homes and shops, to welcome the goddess Lakshmi, to give them good luck for the year ahead. A few days before Ravtegh, which is the day before Diwali, houses, buildings, shops and temples are thoroughly cleaned, whitewashed and decorated with pictures, toys and flowers. On the day of Diwali, people put on their best clothes and exchange greetings, gifts and sweets with their friends and family.

Diwali precautions with candles and Diyas

Lightning up your home with those candles and Diyas actually feels great, but to keep it that way it is important to take some precautions before you decorate your home with them.

Always make it a point to not to light Diyas or candles near the curtains or other hanging decorations of the home.

Fix the candles firmly only on a surface that is hard and not-inflammable.

Also do not light a candle or Diya near electrical wiring.

Diwali precautions about dressing

Wearing the right clothing during celebrating Diwali is vital to ensure that your Diwali is safe. We all, particularly the ladies and the girls, tend to opt for those best frilly clothing for this special occasion. They can actually make you look gorgeous, but in fact, they are not that good when it comes to lightning firecrackers. Read on the safety precautions you need to maintain in dressing for a safe Diwali,

Wear only 100% cotton cloth and prefer a thicker variety of cotton than the superfine one while choosing your Diwali clothes.

Wearing synthetic fibers are a strict no for Diwali.

Opting for clothes that are well fitted on your body is a good choice for Diwali. Loose and frilly clothes can catch fire unknowingly which can be indeed dangerous.

If you are wearing a saree or using a dupatta on Diwali make sure that the loose ends of the pallu or the dupatta are tied well into your waist. This might not give you the best look but can obviously save you from much bigger incidents.

If you are wearing a frilly dress on Diwali, try to change into a more well-fitting dress before you start enjoying the fire crackers.

Opt for cotton clothes that cover the maximum part of your body but do not hang lose. Maximum coverage ensures better safety from fire.

Take care of your shoes. Frilly, decorative shoes are not the right option while firing fire crackers. Opt for shoes that come without less or frill and covers maximum part of the feet.

Pollution Clock Ticking Away
By M.Surya Kapil
On 7.11.18- The Supreme Court released latest figures that pollution rate has been increased a lot .After every diwali festival pollution rate reaches at highest level.
No doubt that in diwali burning of cracker is useful because after monsoon some harmful insect may born which will cause harm to us but release of gas emitted by cracker help to kill those insects .
But precautions also be taken by us .We should take care that we are not burning crackers more than requiement as it causes air pollution and then throwing all non - biodegradable waste i.e. crackers .While burning crackers we must ensure that we have not weared nylon clothes .It should be burner outside house in open space, not inside house.By using less polluting crackers .And should burst all crackers in 2 hours so that environment is also maintained. If we will maintain these things then we are maintaining environment.

Have a happy and safe Deepawali
