the ratio of the image to the height of the height of object is known as magnification.
for a mirror magnification, m = -v/u and
for a lens magnification , m  = v/u

 \bold {Magnification \:in \:mirror} :-Magnification produced by spherical mirror is given by the ratio of size of a image and the size of an object.

magnification=size of a image / size of an object

m=h'/h = -v/u

NOTE : m is -ve for real image but +ve for virtual image

hence, magnification for convex mirror is always +ve while for concave mirror it depends upon the nature of the image.

 \bold {Magnification \:in \:Lenses} :- Magnification produced by a lens is also related to the object-distance u, and the image-distance v.This relationship is given by:- m = h'/h = v/u

Cheers!!
