Answer :
Given,
2y² + 9y + 10 = 0
We divide both sides by 2. Then,
y² + 9/2 y + 5 = 0
⇒ y² + (2 × y × 9/4) + (9/4)² = - 5 + (9/4)²
⇒ (y + 9/4)² = - 5 + 81/16
⇒ (y + 9/4)² = ( - 80 + 81)/16
⇒ (y + 9/4)² = 1/16
∴ y + 9/4 = 1/4 & y + 9/4 = - 1/4
⇒ y = (1/4 - 9/4) & y = - 1/4 - 9/4
⇒ y = (1 - 9)/4 & y = (- 1 - 9)/4
⇒ y = -8/4 & y = -10/4
⇒ y = - 2 & y = -5/2
Therefore, the required solution is
y = - 2, -5/2.
