1)it prevents pregnancy by killing sperms with copper ions so no egg can be fertilized.
2)the hormonal coil last upto five years but copper coil last upto ten years

disadvantages:
1)it can come with some side effects which aren't suitable for everyone.
2)it can cause more bleeding and cramping during menstrual cycle.
