Solute is the solid substance which is dissolved in the solvent. eg. sugar, salt.

Solvent is the liquid in which the solid solute is dissolved. eg. water

A simple solution is basically two substances that are evenly mixed together. One of them is called thesolute and the other is the solvent. Asolute is the substance to be dissolved (sugar). The solvent is the one doing the dissolving (water).
