hey guys

can anyone please help me with the question I am going to ask please it is important.....

so the question is:


state a reason why when hydrogen is passed over heated copper oxide the resulting product formed differs in colour from the original reactant ..

Answer:

As during this reaction the copper oxide is losing oxygen and is being reduced. The hydrogen is gaining oxygen and is being oxidised.In other words, one reactant gets oxidised while the other gets reduced.

Here u go

this is because Copper oxide has oxygen in it and when it reacts with hydrogen it forms H2O which is water ,thus leading change in colour .
