Let Rahul's age be x

Mother = 6x

Express their age 5 years later in term of x:

Rahul = x + 5

Mother = 6x + 5

Solve x:

Given that their ratio will be 2: 7

2(6x + 5) = 7(x + 5)

12x + 10 = 7x + 35

12x - 7x = 35 - 10

5x = 25

x = 5

Find their present age:

Rahul = x = 5 years old

Mother = 6x = 6(5) = 30 years old
