The Universal Law of Gravitation, given by Sir Newton, states that EVERY object in this UNIVERSE attracts every other object with a Force. The force can act between the sun and all planets, sun and Earth, Earth and moon, moon and sun, you and your phone or ANY other object. Hence it is called "Universal Law". (It acts between every object of Universe)

This force is directly proportional to the masses of two objects, and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the two objects.

F  ∝ Mm
where "M" is the mass of larger object and "m" is the mass of smaller object.

F  ∝ 1/d²
where "d" is the distance between the two objects.

The force is inversely proportional to the 'square' of the distance between two objects, i.e. if the distance increases, then the force will decrease by squares (^2). For example -
If the distance between the two objects increases by 4 times, the force will decrease by (4)² = 16 times. Hence, the universal gravitational law is also called the inverse square law (force is "inversely proportional" to the "square of the distance").

That's your answer.

Hope it'll help.. :-D
