The main theme in the novel is "Anne Frank: The Diary of A Young Girl" is being selfless i.e the sacrifice of one human being for another. The act of hiding people at the risk of your own life and giving of your food, living space, and friendship to spare the lives of people around you.

Its is the feeling of being lonely and misunderstood that provides the force for her diary writing that she full determination and colors many of the experiences she recounts. That is the basic theme of the story. Even in her early diary entries, in which she writes about her many friends and her lively social life, Anne expresses gratitude that the diary can act as a confidant with whom she can share her innermost thoughts.
