Antibiotics are chemicals produced by microorganisms which are capable of destroying or inhibiting the growth of other microorganism.


To cure the infection by certain microorganisms antibiotics are used. 

Antibiotics destroy biochemical pathways of bacteria while viruses does not have such pathways.

They have a little hereditary material of their own.

Viruses insert their genetic material into a human cell's DNA in order to reproduce. Antibiotics cannot killviruses because bacteria and viruseshave different mechanisms and machinery to survive and replicate. The antibiotic has no “target” to attack in a virus
