copper is the metal.  It reacts with CO2 to form basic copper carbonate. Cu2(OH)2CO3

Alloying copper with other metals.

Electroplating: The process by which a thin uniform layer of one metal is deposited over another metal.

1.)The metal X is copper which react with carbon dioxide present in air and forms copper carbonate. The process responsible for it is corrosion.
2)Name of this green coating is copper carbonate. Formula of green coating formed on the metal is 2Cu+CO2+H2O+O2=CuCO3.Cu(OH)2
3)Two important method to prevent this process are following -
(a.)By alloying, it improves the properties of a metal.
(b.)By electroplating
(c.)By washing copper vessels with citric acid or tamarind as this acid neutralise the basis of carbonate.
