Let the number of children be 'x'

and adults be 'y'

there were totally 764 people , therefore

x + y = 764...... × 2


2 forks by children and 5 forks for adult

2x + 5y = 2992....

from both equation...

2x + 5y = 2992
2x + 2y = 1528. (-)

y = 1464/3

y = 488


x = 764 - 488 = 276

there were 276 children and 488 adults
