Required Answer :

In short ::

There are 3 types of soil (on the basis of soil particles or fragments) :

  • Sandy soil
  • Loamy soil
  • Clayey soil

Sandy soil has thick layer of sand and it lacks humus content and doesn't support agriculture. Loamy soil is perfect soil to grow any crop as it has equal amount of nutrients and also it has high fertility. Clayey soil doesn't contain nutrients in equal proportion and only few crops can be grown in it.

Detailed Information ::

Sandy Soil :

Sandy soil have large sand particles. It lacks humus content and it contains a high proportion of soluble salts. Crops can't be grown in this soil as it lacks humus. It has poor water holding capacity. Also, it has the highest percolation rate of water.

Loamy soil :

We can say that it is has the perfect factors to grow crops in this soil. It is rich in humus and best suited to grow any crop. It is very fertile and suports agriculture. Particles of loamy soil breaks easily and holds moisture & nutrients. It has water percolation rate higher than clayey soil but lower than sandy soil.

Clayey soil :

Clayey soil contains clay which is the smallest particles in the soil. It has the lowest percolation rate of water. Few plants are grown in it like cotton, sugarcane. It has very little space for air & has high retention capacity.

2. Red soil

3. Black soil

4. Laterite soil

5. Mountain soil

6. Desert soil

★Question:- \\

Describe The different types of soil.

Explain Types of soil in 3to 4 lines.

★Answer:- \\

Soil is classified into four types:-

  • Sandy soil.
  • Silt Soil.
  • Clay Soil.
  • Loamy Soil.

➳ Sandy Soil:-

The first type of soil is sand. It consists of small particles of weathered rock. Sandy soils are one of the poorest types of soil for growing plants because it has very low nutrients and poor water holding capacity, which makes it hard for the plant’s roots to absorb water. This type of soil is very good for the drainage syste.

➳ Silt Soil:-

Silt, which is known to have much smaller particles compared to sandy soil and is made up of rock and other mineral particles, which are smaller than sand and larger than clay. It is the smooth and fine quality of the soil that holds water better than sand. Silt is easily transported by moving currents and it is mainly found near the river, lake and other water bodies.

➳ Clay Soil:-

Clay is the smallest particle amongst the other two types of soil. The particles in this soil are tightly packed together with each other with very little or no airspace. This soil has very good water storage qualities and makes it hard for moisture and air to penetrate into it.

➳ Loamy Soil:-

Loam is the fourth type of soil. It is a combination of sand, silt and clay such that the beneficial properties from each is included.It has the ability to retain moisture and nutrients; hence, it is more suitable for farming. This soil is also referred to as agricultural soil as it includes an equilibrium of all three types of soil materials being sandy, clay, and silt and it also happens to have humus.
