why are gaps are left in between rauls while laying railway tracks

So that there is enough margin for thetracks to expand and contract due to the temperature changes. If that gap is not left then the tracks might have enormous stress in them whileexpanding due to heat.

In summer, due to the raise in temperature the rail tracks expand .....
To allow the expansion some gaps are left between them.
