Total Energy of a Satellite

★The total energy is obtained by adding the expressions of kinetic and potential energy :-

→ E = P.E + K.E

= - GMm/(R+h) + ½mv² = -GMm/2 ( R + h )

But when a Satellite is orbiting close to the surface of earth , r ≈ R

In this case - total energy is given by :-

E = -GMm/2R
