Given,

8x + 5y = 60

5x + 5y = 30

(-) --------------------

3x = 30

x= 10

substituting the value of x to find y,

5y = 30- 5x

5y = -20

y= -4

Alternative method:

8x + 5y = 60

5y = 60 - 8x

y= 60-8x/ 5..........(a)

5x+ 5y= 30

5y= 30-5x

y= 30-5x/5.........(b)

equating a and b,

60-8x/5 = 30 -5x/5

60- 8x= 30-5x

30= 3x

x= 10

substituting the value of x to find y,

y = 30- 50/5 = -4

thus ,

X= 10

Y= -4
