Verghese Kurien (26 November 1921 – 9 September 2012), known as the 'Father of the White Revolution' in India,[2] was a social entrepreneur whose "billion-litre idea", Operation Flood, the world's largest agricultural dairy development programme,[3][4] made dairy farming India's largest self-sustaining industry and the largest rural employment provider, being a third of all rural income,[5] with benefits of raising incomes and credit, riddance of debt dependence, nutrition, education, health, gender parity and empowerment, breakdown of caste barriers and grassroots democracy and leadership.[6][7] It made India the world's largest milk producer from a milk-deficient nation, which doubled milk available per person and increased milk output four-fold, in 30 years.[8]

On 26 November 1921 in Calicut, Kerala.....An incredible child was born! The one who left the whole world in astonishment...,...The legend was none other than "The Milkman Of India"......."DR. Varghese KURIEN"
✔His father was a civil surgeon and his mother was a highly educated woman.
✔He completed his BSc from Loyola College in Madras...
✔ Completed his MSc from USA
After being educated he was posted in the City named Anand situated in Gujarat in the year 1949......and he worked there as the Officer Of Dairy Division.
Being at his job he observed the struggle of farmers against the milk distributers of that place, this disturbed him deeply!
He then, left his job and formed a milk co-operative known as
India at that time was a milk defecient country! But thanks to the efforts of Dr. Verghese Kurien.....who transformed it into the largest producer of Milk in the world.

• He received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1963.
• He was Awarded with The Padma Shri in 1965.
• He Received the Padma Bhushan in 1966.
• He was awarded with the World Food Prize in 1989.

After such an incredible life journey......he was laid in Peace on September 9, 2012 due to brief illness.
