since this is an equation in 2 variables, there needs to be one more equation with X and y to determine the exact values of X and y. if there is only one equation, X and y can have infinite values


Harshsalve1156: 2x + y =8 is another equation
WhatsInAName: using the two equations, you can say 2y-1=x (based on the first equation) and then substitute the values so you get 3y-1=8 which means that 3y=9 so y=3. if y is 3 then you will get x = 2.5 when you substitute the values of y.
