because..

Salt iodisation is not a chemical process and iodised salt is not a chemical compound. Iodisation is only the physical process of mixing the iodine compound with common salt. The iodine compound required for iodising one tonne of salt is just 50 grams. Iodised salt, so obtained, is a mixture – a heterogeneous mixture.
