The continuous flow of water in root xylem is due to transpiration pull. The water which is lost through the stomata is replaced by xylem vessel.

The ion-concentration increases inside the root and hence osmotic pressure increases the movement of water from soil into root which occurs continuously.

Cells of the root are in close contact with soil and actively take up ions. The ion concentration increases inside the root and hence, osmotic pressure increases the movement of water from the soil into the root, which occurs continuously.
