what was the objective of lord wallesley behind introducing subsidiary alliance? what were the principles of this system

Lord Wellesley wanted to create dependent kingdoms through subsidiary alliances......the king's who were ruling a subsidiary state did not have an army of their own and had to depend on a British army which the king had to pay for......also they had to take permission from Brits before entering an alliance or starting war.....they couldn't allow travellers from any other country to stay in their kingdon other than britishers
