The chapter, The Last Lesson by Alphonso Daudet beautifully portrays the vice of procrastination among human beings; people of Alsace and Lorraine also suffered from it. Teaching his last lesson to his students, M. Hamel talked about this vice. He reproached his countrymen for putting off learning their mother tongue. He reproached the people of Alsace for preferring to send their children to earn money to learning French. He even blamed himself for not teaching the French language seriously, as he gave holidays to his students when he wanted to enjoy leisure activities such as fishing and gardening.
