this metal is sodium

-2Na+2H2O=2NaOH+H2(water exposure)

-2Na+O2=2NaO+heat(exposed to air)

-electrolysis of sodium chloride:

-brine, a saturated NaCl solution, is the electrolyte

-Hydrogen(H+), Chlorine(Cl-), Sodium(Na+), and Hydroxide(OH-) ions are formed

-sodium goes to the negative steel cathode, while chlorine goes to the positive carbon anode

-the electrolytic cell used for this process is called a Down's electrolytic cell
