2 types of geometric isomerism, both arise due to restricted rotation about a bond e.g. in double bonds or cyclic structures; and also there has to be 2 different groups attached. The 2 different isomers are called cis- and trans- isomers, with cis- being the one where both groups are on the same side. This is an e.g. of cis-trans isomerism in an alkene.
