hiii dear,
Banking of road......... okay it's a good question .....
Sooo here uhh goo.....

© When a car takes a turn on a level ( or horizontal road), the necessary centripetal force is provided only by the force of static friction between the car tyres and the road surface. If the friction is inadequate, a speeding car may skid off the road.

© The friction depends upon the nature of the surfaces in contact as well as presence of oil and water on the road. hence it cannot be relied upon to provide the necessary centripetal force. Moreover, the friction results in fast wear and tear of the tyres.

© To avoid the risk of skidding as well as to reduce the wear and tear of the car tyres, the road surface at the bend is tilted inward, i.e., the outer side of the road is raised above its inner side. This is called banking of road. On the banked road, the resultant of the normal reaction and the gravitational force provides the necessary centripetal force. Thus w/o depending on friction, every car can be safely driven on such a banked curve at certain optimum speed. Hence a road should be properly banked at a bend.

© The angle of banking is the angle of inclination of the surface of the banked road at a bend with the horizontal...

© Definition. The phenomenon of raising outer edge of the curvedroad above the inner edge is to provide necessary centripetal force to the vehicles to take a safer turn and the curved road is calledBanking of Roads.

© This is necessary because :-
i) it prevents from skidding.
ii) the speed can be increased without skidding.
iii) wear and tear of the tyres can be reduced..
